More Roadworks on my Route :(

So now we have Island Construction carving up a section of Palmetto Road, just east of Devonshire Rec but - most importantly - after the Frog Lane Roundie! PITA no matter how you slice it.

Last week it was some sort of frivolous digging 1/2 way down Shelly Bay stretch, to do what I just don't know - probably has something to do with the guy that lives opposite who's always working on his mansion!

But the current project is going to force me to go [gasp!] Middle Road into Town. Or even worse, all the way down N. Shore Road to Blackwatch or Berkley Hill & back around St. John's Road.

Someone has it in for the Furry One!!!

Thursday

Grandparent Hour

Had chance to ride in this morning a little later than normal, which has opened my eyes to a new period in traffic - Grandparent Hour.

This is the hour between 9:30 - 10:30 that follows Morning Rush Hour (which is 7:30-8:30). There were SO many elderly people driving that I passed ... and I know this because every single one of them had a 4-digit License Plate # i.e. 04518

and that's about all I got to say :)

Callin' em out - Volume II

10029 - Silver Rover

Coming along the section of N. Shore, between Palmetto Rd. roundie & Clayhouse, this fucking idiot decides that traffic is going WAY too slow for their liking. Now, I'm not passing anyone on the Loaner so you know traffic is moving pretty well. And it's 5:30 so traffic is essentially bumper-2-bumper.

Moron decides to start passing small sections at a time with no space to pull into at all. First they almost cream a Bike Rider (elderly man on a old Scoopy) coming the other way, before diving in between 2 more Bikes.
Next trick was making a pass on the blind corner by Camara's Carpentry shop, again diving in front of another unsuspecting Bike.
Last one I saw was passing EVERYONE from Store Hill to the beginning of the Bends, forcing yet another Bike (see a pattern emerging here!?!?) to pull into a driveway to avoid getting hammered.

The more driving I see like this the more I want to drive a 4-Wheeler to/from work :(

"Wheelchair" Buses? NOT!

According to this article ... which was kindly reminded to me by the venerable Tryangle on BIAW [LINK] (Thanks Try *wave*) ... the kneeling/side-entry Buses that suddenly appeared are ... well ... crap!

Willard Fox, who in my estimation is a shining light in the battle for Disable Persons in Bermuda, points out the folly of Government on several fronts. I have myself been trying to work out the Number of passengers per bus lost by the side-entry doors + telescoping ramps (which drivers are NOT ALLOWED TO USE).

Another example of a Government's passing-of-the-buck a.k.a. Delegation gone very awry.

Some day I'll be able to take the Littlest Wookette on a bus ride.

Calling out 2 Slow-Pokes

Well, I'm going to have to call out two drivers who were ridiculously slow this morning:

Little White Daihatsu. Somehow we managed to be let out into the vast line behind this car. He has a little bumper sign (not a sticker, airbrushed!) that says, "Undertakers love Overtakers". Somewhat appropriate, as you will see later :)
IF he was going 30kph, he was going 130...painful to be behind.
Another little irk - he had (obviously) a grand-daughter in the back seat...without a booster seat, seat belt, NOTHING. Kid just wandering around in the back seat, climbing into the front & back again. Incredible & dangerous!

Old White Mitsubishi. I thought the Daihatsu was slow...this guy made the Diahatsu almost come to a screeching halt!!! The old guy driving was probably 900 years old, with the Terminator over-classes going on & Mama in the sidepocket GIVING him a ear-full about something. Poor guy, he was really dark skinned, but he was squeezing the wheel so tightly I could see white knuckles! Top speed: maybe 20 kph!

Best part ... and I wish I had a camera on my phone, Diahatsu ALMOST tried to pass Mitsubishi thereby flaunting the dire warning on his bumper! Would have made a perfect picture.

Wednesday

STOLEN ... Again!

Well, I knew the euphoria of a (nearly) new Bike was going to wear off - just not THIS fast!

Last night sometime after 9:30, 'Midnight' was stolen from the front yard. Same exact spot, same M.O. during the rain, same lack of evidence of any kind. Since the original HD was taken, I had been using a 3/4" cable lock ... admittedly only through the front wheel & around the base of the bike. But it was certainly impossible to move without some gurt bolt-cutters! Mrs. Wookie rode 'Midnight' home yesterday, but alas forgot the cable lock.

But new developments THIS time:
- Spent the ridiculous $$$ to have Datatagging done; We'll see if it makes any difference at all.
- Confirmed with Colonial that said Datatags had been affixed & I was now ready for an upgraded policy; Was told not to bother until it was up for renewal (July) because they would charge me twice. BOTTOM LINE - still only 3rd Party coverage!!!

Seriously considering a Bus Pass...
